Doreen is a resident of Maynooth and Toronto. She’s a retired Sociology Professor from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). She’s also enthusiastically pursuing ways todevelop narratives through images.

Doreen’s interest in photography began to blossom while she was engaged in community-based research projects that examine older lesbian identities and anti-poverty organizingusing photovoice methodology. Photovoice uses images taken by and with community participants to represent their perspectives and build narratives of their lived experiences.The aim for this work is to ascertain the needs of different members of our communities and thus be able to seek appropriate supports.

Since retiring, Doreen has taken photography classes in Toronto to learn more about how to compose and edit photos to reflect the world around her. Her buddies in f23 havepatiently taught her much. She recently received an honorary mention from the Art Gallery of Bancroft’s 2022 juried exhibition.
