About the artist
Elizabeth (Betty) Jackson has seen a few communities. Born in the Netherlands, she and her husband moved from London, Ontario to North Kawartha after a wrong turn in the dark while honeymooning landed them in Glen Alda.
They later went to Newfoundland on a whim and fell in love with the island. They now divide their time between their two favourite communities.
Artist statement
I am a homebody and was quite content to paint commissions for clients and the odd painting for fun and crafting to my heart's content.
Providence and the AGB changed my way of thinking about my small, comfortable world. I took a chance and stepped outside of my comfort zone, found I had a voice and thoroughly enjoyed talking and listening to all the visitors and fellow artists that I met while being in residence at the art gallery. A new community for me! I have inspired and been inspired to create.
My current paintings are of family – grandkids who have caught frogs and turtles, birthdays at the farm, the people that I've met along the way and the whales and colorful houses of my community in Newfoundland. I have found that my subjects are as diverse as are my communities. I try to be realistic but I also dislike clutter in my art. You are witness to someone who creates chaos and then has to stop and clean it up! A monster has been awakened and it’s doubtful commission work will appease her anymore.
I thank you for that.
Yours truly,
Betty, now AKA Elizabeth Broere Jackson
