Meet this year's juror, Loree Lawrence

Loree is an experienced arts professional with over 30 years of leadership in community-engaged, multidisciplinary, and inter-arts practice. She worked at the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) from 2009 to 2023 as the Multi-Arts, Inter-Arts, and Community-Engaged Arts Officer. In her job, she travelled the province extensively and grew to recognize the important role arts hubs play in small rural communities.

Loree now runs Wildewood Gallery and Seven Sisters Pottery & Studio in Maynooth, Ontario, a village close to Bancroft and Algonquin Park where she remains dedicated to supporting artists in their careers and providing community access to arts experiences.

Before joining OAC, Loree spent two decades developing collaborative theatre, film, video, and visual art projects with communities in Toronto and Vancouver. She was Artistic Director of KYTES (Kensington Youth Theatre Employment Services), a Toronto District School Board satellite program that engaged street-involved youth through theatre and creative collaboration. Loree was also a founding member of Red Wagon Collective, lead artist of The Gathering Space in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood, and Associate Artistic Director at Jumblies Theatre in Toronto.

Loree has served on advisory boards for the culture divisions of Vancouver, Ottawa, and Brampton, and continues to work as an independent arts consultant and practicing ceramic artist. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Development and Political Science from the University of Guelph, a Master of Arts in Art Education from Simon Fraser University, and a Ceramics Certificate from Haliburton School of Art and Design.
