Bentley Jarvis
Bentley was born in Balmertown, Ontario in 1949. He studied visual arts and electronic arts at The Three Schools in Toronto in 1970, electronics at Fanshawe College (1972-73),computer science and visual arts at the University of Western Ontario (1974-76), electronic music composition and system design at the University of Waterloo (Honours BIS1982), and computer modelling and animation at Fanshawe College 2001-2003.
He’s been composing and performing electroacoustic music since 1975 and teaching electroacoustics and computer animation at the Ontario College of Art and Design Universityin Toronto since 1983. Bentley has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian League of Composers, been president of the Forest City Gallery (London), and vice-presidentof the Canadian Electroacoustic Community.
His work, which integrates electroacoustic music with visual elements such as dance, video projection, or sculpture, has been exhibited for the International Society ofContemporary Music, the First International Computer Music Convention in New York, the Banff Centre, the Music Gallery, New Adventures in Sound Art and the Science Centre inToronto, the Canadian Pavilion at the World’s Fair in Vancouver and the Holland Festival among others.
Bentley and his wife Susan Davies live half of the year at Lyell Lake near Madawaska and half the year in London Ontario. They far prefer Lyell Lake.
