Opening reception:
Friday, April 8 | 7:30 pm
My paintings are my response to my deep and abiding love of the natural world – particularly the Ontario wilderness. My images, representational or abstract, are the product of my experiences paired with a profound sense of connection with the land, filtered through time and memory.
My process is an exploration that involves building up multiple layers of wax and pigment, and then scratching, scoring and scraping the surface, gradually and alternately adding and subtracting, concealing and revealing, as I work towards creating an environment rich with natural textures and a sense of history and place. This process, I feel is symbolic of nature’s cycles of erosion and decay, growth and renewal, and also an adventure and journey: an exciting merging of intuition, analysis and imagination.

The Art Gallery of Bancroft is situated on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg Algonquins, which is known to be unceded. Indigenous people have been stewards of this land since time immemorial; as such we honour and respect their connection to the land, its plants, animals and stories. Our recognition of the contributions and historic importance of Indigenous peoples is sincerely aligned to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of truth and reconciliation real in our community.
