Artist statement

Clouds are sailing by, soaring, shifting overhead, stretching to the far horizon. Shadows scud across the hills revealing new contours. The Sky is calling…..

It’s a good day to paint.

Trees gesture in the wind. Their character shaped in a graceful bend with expressive branches as they grow in the prevailing wind. The surface of the lake awakens in the prevailing wind: a gentle breath…a quick squall…a lively response of whitecaps in a steady gale. Even earth, sand, and rock are sculpted over eons into expressive forms by the prevailing wind.

There is no mystery of “how to paint the wind.” Its influence is everywhere – expressed throughout every landscape in lively movement, gentle rhythm, or powerful force.

Every painting brings me back to that time and place of being there within that scene. If I have been really successful it even feels like standing there in the prevailing wind.
