The Art Gallery of Bancroft is situated on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg Algonquins, which is known to be unceded. Indigenous people have been stewards of this land since time immemorial; as such we honour and respect their connection to the land, its plants, animals and stories. In the artists’ words, “I want my paintings to betray my passion for capturing my moments in tangled forests, observing the elusive wildlife around Lake Weslemkoon, where I am lucky enough to have my studio.
Painting this wilderness is a challenge I welcome. I want my paintings to show the delicate balance between humans and the animals that share their environment with us.”
