What a great year it's been at the AGB!

Our monthly shows have brought an eclectic mix of art to the region, ranging from the work of a printmaker based on the Bayeux Tapestry, to a series of paintings that celebrated the ability of classical music to inspire abstract art. We have showcased stunning photography that explored the transient nature of utility in today's brave new world, and been fascinated by the marriage of craftsmanship and natural science that taxidermy and museum display art creates.

Featured artists have included painters from across the region who support and work together, contrasting with a self-taught Bancroft artist whose primitive folk art style was created in rustic seclusion.

2014 was a year of new initiatives - a very well received ongoing workshop program, as well as partnerships with the Village Playhouse and A Place for the Arts to promote The Arts Triangle.

The AGB has not been afraid to explore new territory, offering artist's talks, book signings, musical events and even a presentation on how to best navigate the murky waters of the arts grant application process!

Our major fundraising events were hugely successful.  The AGB's Samosa stand at the Wheels, Water and Wings street festival tickled the taste buds of strolling party-goers. The Blues and Brews night was a sold-out event featuring popular musicians the Fade Kings, and offerings by a local brewer and vineyard. Coupled with the silent auction of miniature paintings donated by local artists, the event was an unqualified success for the Gallery!

Achieving all of this and keeping a public art gallery going for over 32 years is something to be proud of - and we are!   Operating without any ongoing government support, the AGB relies on sponsorship, gallery and gift shop sales, membership dues, our volunteer staff and the kind generosity of strangers.

Watch out for what we have in store for 2015 (there’s rumour of a CD release party). Show your support for the AGB by buying an annual membership for only 20 dollars; it's the best deal in town!
